ANZAC Ceremonies 2015

The School ‘s long tradition of commemorating Anzac Day was held on the 24th April with a Senior and Junior assembly. The guests were Mrs. Greta Jungwirth, President of Ex-students Association, members of the Association and Mr. Barry Gracey, President of the Pozieres Remembrance Association who had travelled down from Queensland.

The Principal, opened the ceremony with an address recalling her thoughts on the First World War, followed by Mrs. Jungwirth who reminded the students that the School colours had been taken from the Light Infantry by our first Principal, Mr. Langford, and the number of students from DHS who had given their lives in the service of our country. This was then followed by Mr. Gracey who told us about the importance of the Western Front and how the Australians captured the strategic town of Pozieres and held it against enormous odds. Then came the laying of the House wreathes by the House Captains, the Ex-Students wreath by the SRC Presidents and finally the School wreath by the School Captains. After the official wreath laying Mr. Ogden led us through the official ceremony with the Last Post, Ode of Remembrance and the Reveille.

The students at both ceremonies can be congratulated on the way they conducted themselves through this very moving ceremony which has been a tradition at the School for many years.
