Visit To Dandenong High School By The Minister Of Education, Mr James Merlino

On Thursday 12th May the Minister of Education and Deputy Premier, the Honorable James Merlino, visited Dandenong High School to congratulate the robotic students who took part in the World Championships and their parents and to launch the new educational initiative “Navigator” on behalf of the State Government.

The Year 11 robotics team delighted all guests with an engaging presentation outlining their learning, including a demonstration of their National Championship winning robot. Minister Merlino communicated how impressed he was with the students and their achievements and that they were a perfect example of Victoria the “Education State”.

Minister Merlino then announced the new Navigator initiative intended to re-engage students across Victoria who are currently not attending school on a regular basis.  SELLEN and their community partners have been awarded close to $800 000 to implement the new program across the South East region. Andrew Simmons on behalf of the South East partnership organizations and SELLEN said that he was “excited by the challenge” and believed that “Navigator could make a real difference to dis-engaged students in the area”.

The visit concluded with an afternoon tea and the Minister was able to talk to students and parents as well as the leaders of the community organizations represented.
