In 2015, the theme for Book Week was ‘Books Light Up Our World’ and all of the festivities, such as: the author visit and Book Trailer Film Festival, certainly brightened up our school week.
A highlight of the week was the opportunity to participate in the D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything And Read Program) and, on the last day, to see a good number of staff and students seize the opportunity to dress up as book characters and to celebrate reading with their favourite books, newspaper or magazine.
The announcement from Susan Ogden, our Principal, to introduce reading time, allowed us the space to reflect on all of the benefits, to young and old, in cultivating a lifelong love of reading. Assisting students to become lifetime readers who love learning is a pure joy. Setting aside time for our school community to enjoy reading is not only fun, but practical, as it models and builds the capacity of our students to achieve success at school and in their lives beyond school.
Congratulations to the whole school for valuing and supporting the reading initiatives at our school.
